A small shuttered window sits at the centre of a worn exterior wall in Loubos in 1994. Large sections of plaster have fallen away, exposing the brickwork beneath, while discarded metal objects and the remains of a bicycle lie along the ground.
Alberts’ square composition gives the wall a strong architectural presence. The window forms the central point of the photograph, surrounded by contrasting areas of white plaster, dark brick and uneven surface texture. The objects below introduce evidence of use and occupation without revealing the people connected to them.
The photograph pays close attention to details that might easily be overlooked. Cracks, repairs, exposed materials and abandoned objects become part of a record of the place, showing how buildings carry evidence of time, use and changing circumstances.
